What is Inspire – High potential and gifted education?

HPGE refers to students who demonstrate advanced capacity in one or more of these areas:

Students with high potential or giftedness may learn at a faster pace, require greater depth and complexity, or benefit from enrichment and acceleration opportunities. They may also demonstrate advanced reasoning, strong motivation, curiosity or creativity in one or more areas. Our approach is aligned with the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education Policy, which supports schools to identify and nurture students’ potential across a range of domains.

Identifying and Supporting HPGE Students

We identify high potential and gifted learners through a range of evidence, including:

• teacher assessment and classroom observations
• student work samples and individual learning behaviours
• academic performance and extracurricular achievements
• parent nominations
• tailored learning and enrichment opportunities

Our approach includes:

• differentiated lessons and evidence-based teaching in classrooms

• purposeful enrichment and extension activities across K–6

• flexible grouping so students can work with like-ability peers

• enrichment programs and opportunities that support students to extend their learning

Supporting Student Success

We support student success by providing planned enrichment opportunities, collaborative learning environments and regular monitoring of student progress and wellbeing. Our school culture values and nurtures each student’s potential, helping learners feel supported, challenged and encouraged to grow.

Partnering with Families

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting high potential and gifted learners. Families can support their child by sharing insights about their strengths and interests, encouraging curiosity and persistence at home, promoting wellbeing and balanced routines, and communicating regularly with teachers about progress, challenges and opportunities for growth.
